To achieve anything worthwhile— anything remotely worth mentioning, you don't need to have all the good qualities in the world. You only need to have a few, and that's all really. And of those few vital qualities, dedication in the face of distractions is one of the most important. It's impossible to attain success without determination, and unfortunately, determination is the one quality that the 21st century has tried us of.

Whether you work at a regular desk or a standing desk, whether sitting or standing, there are a thousand things fighting for your attention at every moment in time. And these things aren't always important.

If you're finding it difficult to concentrate on your work, you should be comforted with the fact that you're not the only one. It's an ailment more common than you think, and importantly, we've found a way to deal with it.

These five strategies will help you to deal decidedly with distractions, and will assist you in achieving your goals easily.

Prepare For Your Day The Night Before

This probably sounds like something you've heard countless times, but stay with me. Before you sleep, make sure you take care of basic decisions. Decide what you will eat, what clothes you will wear, what work you will attend to first, and other such decisions that you can make beforehand.

This way, you put your entire day in your hands. You leave less room for spontaneous decisions that cause distractions. You should also follow this simple rule for money. Decide how much you will spend, what you will spend it on, and factor in contingencies into your budget.

This will make it easy for you to avoid getting sidetracked and will stop you from wasting time on unimportant things.

Difficult Tasks First

Difficult tasks will not get easier unless you get started on them. The longer you delay a difficult task for, the more difficult it gets. The best way to deal with tasks like this is to work on them first and get them out of the way.

When you wake up in the morning, get your most difficult task out of the way immediately. Since our brains are the sharpest in the morning, it's actually the right time for you to get your hardest jobs done.

Remove Distractions

Of course, there are times when we'll have real emergencies to deal with. But 90% of the time, we don't have these emergencies to contend with. What we have instead are distractions that do not need our immediate attention and will resolve themselves in their own time.

It's important to be able to discern which situation requires your immediate attention, and which doesn't. This will help you stay away from distractions, and focus on what's really important— like your job.

Be Comfortable, And Keep Up Your Energy

The key to keeping up your energy levels is working in the right environment and with the right tools. If you spend an unusually long time sitting down, you should consider getting a height-adjustable desk or a standing desk. These desks will help you change positions easily and will assist you in getting your energy levels up. There are even some kinds of desks, like the MonitorStand Workstation, that have great features like UV sterilization. This means that you won't have to deal with disinfecting your desk, as the desk does that easily and on its own.

Getting tools like this to help with your work will no doubt help you to be comfortable, and will keep your energy up. This, of course, will directly translate into higher concentration levels. And if your level of concentration is high, you're very unlikely to get distracted.

Keep Your Eye On The Ball

One way to boost concentration levels is to constantly remind yourself of your goals. What do you hope to achieve on any given day? What are your long term goals? What are your short term goals? How do you plan on achieving them?

These are all questions that you must satisfactorily answer in order to have any semblance of a "goal". After answering these questions, you should be able to see in your mind the vision you have for yourself— and that vision should be an anchor that tethers you to reality. Visualizing your goals often will help you build an emotional connection to it, and this will motivate you to work hard and avoid distractions in order to achieve it.
