The New Workplace

The Global Pandemic

The old world seemed like a dream. Now we are faced with the scary notion of a new world wrapped around the new normal. Last night, while sitting on my posture chair, I looked at the pictures I took just a week before the nationwide lockdown. It seemed as if I’m looking at a different planet—so full of life. A planet, despite our failings, was filled with noise and laughter.

Those things I hated, like the sound of a busy street and the hum of a wave of crowd rushing like a tsunami during rush hours, now seem something I crave and sorely miss.

The global pandemic of 2019 plunged the world into chaos. It literally exposed our weaknesses and vulnerability as a species. Entire industries paralyzed. Governments around the globe struggle to keep their people and economies afloat. Millions, now without jobs, wander aimlessly at home, pondering on a future that seems to look darker by the minute.

The Age of Internet

When the world was introduced to the internet, it changed the way we communicate and learn about each other. The internet (for better or worse) changed the course of our destiny. It literally made the world seem smaller. From the pile of barrels inside humble barns in the country, to the elegant ergonomic chairs inside the towering buildings in Manhattan, the way we process and consume information was given a new breath of life.

Like the pandemic, the seemingly sudden shift threatened to overwhelm nations. But one thing’s for sure, the traditional way of working changed forever.

Rethinking the Traditional Workplace

With the advancement in technologies and the improvement of internet connections around the world, people realize that working in the Age of the World Wide Web is no longer limited to the four walls of the office. Some governments are even encouraging their people to leave their traditional desks and explore the world while working on projects. Laws and bills are being passed around the world, encouraging companies and corporations to offer options so their employees can work in the safety of their homes.

The pandemic came, some would argue, at the perfect time. If it came, they say, before the dawn of the internet, more people will find themselves lost.

The New Workplace

The global pandemics of the past practically annihilated whole civilisations. With the dawn of vaccines for the virus, hope is at last on the horizon. Internet also played a big part in giving humanity another lease in life. Corporations around the world are thinking of ways to change their working process with the convenience of internet in mind. More and more companies are sending work outside their offices. Those who were forced to adapt WFH (work from home) for their employees are now finding the new strategy exponentially more cost effective.

Even employees who were used to working in a traditional working environment are now discovering the benefits of working from home.

Team WFH (Work From Home)

Families are now together more than ever. Parents and siblings are no longer going out in the morning for work and returning home late at night. Children are thrilled, of course, because they see more of those they love.

Overtime, people will get used to the new working environment. Those who are used to the dynamic, competitive atmosphere of the traditional workplace will have a hard time adjusting—but adjust they must, because this new type of working might eventually stay.

People working at home find themselves more productive. Being inside their safe spaces gives them an extra boost. Being around people they actually like and love pushes them to be better than before.

The mental health of workers is finally recovering from years of abuse.

Ergonomics

People around the world are now forced to redesign and improve on their home office. With the surge of employees and managers being sent home to work, it is paramount that they improve upon their working spaces. The global pandemic may have destroyed industries, but it has given rise to the Age of Ergonomics.

Companies offering ergonomic office furniture is not new. A few of them existed even before the global pandemic. Now, at last, their voices are being heard. They’re more famous now than ever. Their message of scientifically proven way of working effectively with our health in mind is now being widely accepted.

Companies like Flexispot, a company dedicated to providing quality ergonomic office furniture for everyone, are thriving.

People who, in the past, were heavily indoctrinated in working like slaves for hours in the office are now finding the benefits of having ergonomically designed working equipments and furniture. The realization of Flexispot’s message of health is now being acknowledged. The truth that there is a correlation between working and health is now being accepted. The endless hours of working in the office are now increasingly being frowned upon.

Companies like Flexispot is determined to change the game. Changing it is paramount to having a happier and healthier workforce.

People with ergonomic office equipment and furniture swear that they are now able to work without the usually ignored signs of an unhealthy work space. Stress levels are down. Productivity is higher than ever.

Employee wellness is now the rave—which, in my opinion, should always be the core of every company policy around the world. The traditional office furniture—those ill designed, cheap office chairs will never come back. Standing desks are in. Ergonomic office chairs are being delivered to every corner of the country. The common ailments that plagued our people for generations will soon be gone forever. The lower back pains due to sitting down for extensive amount of time in the office will go. The heart conditions due to years of inability to have physical activities while working may disappear. Migranes from not being able to stand at certain hours at work due to poor blood circulation may be forgotten.

At last, employers have their people’s complete welfare in mind.
