Beyond Reading in the Library

We go to the library to read books, newspapers, and magazines. For students, the library is their refuge to pass the test and earn high grades. The library is where we seek information, research data for any field of study such as science, psychology, arts, among others. The traditional library is usually quiet and calm; everything is organized and loud conversations are not allowed.

The modern-day library is more innovative and radical.

It is not only storage of information but also a shelter where people converge to communicate with one another for certain issues and topics. So, the modern-day library is not that quiet anymore. It is a home to more active verbal communication where the communicators have different goals and ideas to share.

I have read from social media platforms that in other countries the library is a place where individuals forge relationships with other people, especially those who have no families or people around them to chat with.

I think this is a very innovative way of utilizing a library for social interaction. We, as human beings need to communicate with one another, join a group or clique to make our life more meaningful and fulfilling. Human beings, as I have learned, need other people to talk with and to have social relationships. We also need to feel a sense of belongingness that is why we join any group that we like and where members th

Otherwise, we cannot fully realize the value of being part of the society. That is why social media platforms such as FB and others are successful because people are able to share their thoughts and feelings with others. And in return earn advice, praises, comments, and criticisms that are positive or negative. However, the outcome of receiving comments may not be similar to all individuals. Some may take criticism negatively but for some, it is not a big deal. So, how we react to a certain opinion about us depends also on individual differences.

Another radical change in some libraries is that there are also coffee shops that are almost attached to the library. I think it this a very welcoming idea to have a place where you can unwind after a long hours of library research. I think this is a good business strategy. Although we need to keep social distance still even today, there are already signs that the business establishments are opening their doors for more customers to come and to keep business going.

As for the library being part of the communication channel, I can foresee that this will expand to more innovative ideas where the library will be the setting for more interaction where social relationships will start to flourish for individuals who need someone to interact with and to share their thoughts. I really admire those countries that have many libraries where people are welcome to read and to interact with others.

The focus in the library is no longer reading or gathering information but but for social interaction

In Denmark, there is the so-called human library. I have taken the essence of this concept from its website, ” in the true sense of the word, a library of people. We host events where readers can borrow human beings serving as open books and have conversations they would not normally have access to. Every human book from our bookshelf represents a group in our society that is often subjected to prejudice, stigmatization or discrimination because of their lifestyle, diagnosis, belief, disability, social status, ethnic origin, etc.” (retrieved from its website: https://humanlibrary.org/).

Now we know that there is another kind of library and this is a library of people where we can know about them through their experiences and situations in life. It is not by reading about these people but by knowing them directly from personal conversations. Its website also has all the information from its inception, its goals, and other information.

This is really a unique kind of library. And I think this is more exciting than the traditional one because we can actually talk to an individual whereas reading a book is a passive kind of action. There is no interaction whatsoever and it also depends on the reader if the information could be absorbed completely or not.

I wish that we can have more of this kind of library where events are created and people converge in one place for socializing and forging wholesome relationships as well. This is where we can understand people more because they share their past and present experiences. We can be more open-minded and tolerant of people around us.

I also think that it is nice to sit down and have a good conversation with another. And it is better with a comfortable chair to linger and talk more about many things. I remember the FlexiSpot accent chair. I saw on the website the beauty and functionality of its accent chairs. They are in different exciting colors.

FlexiSpot has its accent chair called  Upholstered Swivel Accent Chair With Wheels RubiAccent chairs as we know from its name emphasize the beauty of any space or room with its unique style and color that compliments also with the pieces of furniture inside the room. This accent chair has a simple style but looks elegant in grey color.

Another stunning feature of this accent chair is that it is an ultra comfortable cushion that could also support a maximum weight of 275 lbs. It is also multi-purpose because it could be used at home, in offices, in meetings and of course in the library as well. Its durability is evidenced by its high-grade strengthened steel. You are lucky to have this accent chair. This chair makes you feel at home with its simple design yet has that chic and classy look. Please check this product out on the website.
