Procrastination is a pitfall, or you could say a productivity killer.

Every employee is doomed to unintentionally fall into this trap and harm the performance of the company. Worse, it may have a negative impact on your health. Long periods of procrastination can lead to discouragement and disappointment.

The best way to avoid procrastination is to prioritize your tasks based on their urgency and importance.

Always finish the most difficult and unappealing projects first. Keep to the schedule and stop pushing from one task to the next. It may seem perplexing and exhausting at first. But believe the fact that the results will astound you. Make sure to reward yourself along the way (for example, “once I finish this task, I will take a break to go workout”) and set those milestones ahead of time to stay on track.

Let's say you'd like to work on a side project. If you can work on that project every night from 5 to 7 p.m., you'll develop a habit that eliminates the mental turbulence that causes procrastination. The more consistent you are, the more effective you will become and then you'll be able to achieve more. Because you're still exerting mental effort, the more wiggle room you give yourself, the less powerful the effect will be. The goal is to make this as simple as possible. You don't want to even have to consider it. You're not procrastinating if you're not thinking about it.

If you need to get anything done but aren't beginning to feel it, the great option to do is just... begin. Sweep a paintbrush or two in Photoshop if you're an illustrator. If you're a writer, start with a mumbo jumbo statement, then move on to another. You'll find yourself immersed in the process much faster than you anticipated, and you'll be done already when you know it. Don't wait for inspiration or a fully formed idea; just get started, whatever it is. Once you've established a routine and begun to form habits, you'll begin to feel better about yourself – what used to be 3 days of lying in bed followed by 15 minutes of furious typing will become getting the work done followed by going out for a meal and a movie, relaxed and happy. Don't get too comfortable! If you start breaking the habit you've built, taking a day off here, a week off there, the habit will be destroyed much faster than it will be built, and you'll be back to the same old routine, with the slight benefit of knowing what you need to do to get back in top shape.

Self-care is the missing ingredient when it comes to staying productive. Self-care is frequently overlooked because it appears to be selfish or too time-consuming. Self-care is a multidimensional process of implementing strategies to improve one's health and well-being. When your reservoir is low, self-care can help you replenish it by reducing stress/anxiety, reducing health problems, improving efficiency, energy, and the cognitive ability needed to be most efficient throughout the day. On a physiological, interpersonal, mental, and spiritual level, self-care makes you more stable. It is not an extravagance. It's a way of life that everyone should embrace if they want to continue living their best lives and stay productive. Exercise, solo time, frequent stops, stroll, breathing exercises, yoga, and other self-care methods are all good ways to nurture yourself. Identifying one small step you can take right now to begin nurturing it yourself in order to be more productive is one way to begin self-care.

Time management and procrastination are inextricably linked.

  • Find a time management system that works for you - The Pomodoro technique for time-blocking my more content/computer-driven workdays has proven to be essential for productivity and avoiding procrastination). The Pomodoro method consists of a series of blocks (called "Pomodoros") that alternate between periods of work and rest. When going through a to-do list, for example, work on a project for 25 minutes and then take a 5-minute break. Do this pattern three more times (for a total of two hours) before taking a longer break – about 20-30 minutes. When ready to go back to work, return to the pomodoros. This strategy really breaks up the monotony of workdays and gives you the “breaks” you need to fit in things like mobility, intuitive eating, and taking a break from your computer! For each time period, simply set a quick notification on my phone or computer to remind me when it's time to take a break.
  • Time blocking methods reduce the overwhelm that many entrepreneurs feel when attempting to complete a seemingly unending list of tasks and initiatives, and they keep you focused on a single task for a decent length of time. Every time a break occurs, make it a point to get up to move, stretch, and hydrate. Take longer breaks to eat meals away from the desktop, make some phone calls, or go for a walk with my dog to get some exercise.
  • Organize your day so that the most difficult tasks are completed first. The key to staying on track is to make sure you finish your assignments quickly and efficiently. We frequently put off tasks that we perceive to be difficult, complex, or tiresome by worrying or overplanning. When we look things up, this puts us at a disadvantage. We've managed to divert our attention away from our most important responsibilities. When you take a step back and consider how much time you've spent stressing, you'll realize that the job could have been completed rather than getting stressed about it being incomplete. You will improve your performance by smashing out the more stressful assignments ahead of time if you help to put the most difficult tasks at the front of your day.
