How to Invest in Your Employees and Help Them Enjoy Work

21 June 2024

'For so long, you've been wanting to make radical changes for your employees in the workplace. Its never too late to do better for your employees, especially if you want to give them the premium experience of working for your company. You'd want to give them the right benefits and a fun, enjoyable experience that they'd be proud to tell their friends that they work for you.

At the same time, you know that your company is a business. Your main goal is to earn profit to be able to run the company as well as give due compensation to your employees.

So how can you strike a balance between being a company that cares for your employees and at the same time still earning to expand your company even more? Here are some steps to follow:

Give your employees the right compensation, pay overtime hours, and have enough paid leaves.

1. Give your employees the right compensation, pay overtime hours, and have enough paid leaves.

First of all, you have to follow the right wages as stated by the law. You need to do extensive research on living expenses and the right amount to pay for your employee at a certain position.

You also need to give them entitlement to the right number of paid leaves: vacation leaves, sick day offs, maternal leaves, and paternity leaves. Again, it should be in accordance with the law. If you want to give more than what is prescribed, then it is entirely up to your discretion.

And of course, pay overtime hours and give 13th to 14th month pay slips as required by the law.

Reward your top-performing employees with incentives.

2. Reward your top-performing employees with incentives.

Depending on the industry your company falls under, you need to set standards and metrics on how you will be evaluating employees based on their performance. This should also be in accordance with the role that they are in. For them to be more motivated to give their best, you should reward them with incentives. For instance, sales people are entitled to commissions for every sale that they make. Every month or every quarter, you can award an employee as the best performer and for bringing good yields to the company.

Assign tasks that fall under an employee’s job description.

3. Assign tasks that fall under an employee's job description.

As much as possible, you should stick to your agreement and only assign tasks and jobs to your employee based on what's written in his or her job description.

This is why it's very important that you describe the job in detail. Don't hide tasks from the employee on the get-go so that he or she won't be surprised with tasks that are not on his or her job description. This often leads to losing valuable employees because they feel that they are being exploited.

Recognize your employee’s hard work.

4. Recognize your employee's hard work.

It may not necessarily be through the form of money incentives. You can recognize the hard work of your employee by making sure that his or her hard work is acknowledged. Little, small praises go a long way. Build a company culture of employees encouraging and supporting one another instead of a culture where everyone wants to pull the achievers down.

You can also recognize their hard work by giving them a promotion or letting them take much bigger responsibilities. They would feel validated that they've done a great job to be trusted with a bigger project.

Arrange fun team-building activities.

5. Arrange fun team-building activities.

While the workplace is a professional arena, you'd want your employees to also view it as an enjoyable part of their lives as well. Organize activities that will bring each and every employee closer to their friends at work and also be able to meet and interact with others that they don't get to work with everyday. These activities can not only strengthen their friendship, but also help them gain valuable lessons in life such as teamwork, sportsmanship, camaraderie, and critical thinking. They can also just let their guard down and have the most fun.

Invest in tools for your employees’ overall good health and mental well-being.

6. Invest in tools for your employees' overall good health and mental well-being.

It's very important that employees work in an environment that's comfortable, healthy, and supports their physical needs everyday. In an office, people are subjected to prolonged sitting which can eventually lead to a number of serious health concerns. You'd want to minimize their pain and discomfort while working by using the right furniture in the workspace. You'd want them to be in a clear headspace where they can think and work much more efficiently and productively.
